Why now?
Yes, you read that right I don’t like writing emails or writing at all for that matter. But I was recently listening to a podcast by Colin and Samir talking with Ali Abdaal about starting an emailing list as it can be a great way to share ideas. And after thinking about it for a few days I have come up with three reasons why I am giving it a go.
Firstly it is something I found interesting, learning about what others are doing. Lately, I have started following a few creators on Substack reading through them while I am on my 2-hour bus commute on Monday mornings, which I have thoroughly enjoyed.
Next, it is a great way to get some practice writing. I feel that there are so many different areas in which you need to write or type your thoughts down from writing emails to penning down ideas for a new video on YouTube. So I want to get better at this.
One of my favourite quotes that I have been thinking about this year is “Learn, Make, Repeat” by Matti Haapoja. In order to get better at something you need to learn about it, then you need to make it, and finally, you repeat and start again working off what you have learned and so on.
And lastly, it is a digital library of my thoughts and ideas that I can look back on to see how I have changed and hopefully improved in my writing.

What to expect
A short email every 3 months sharing my thoughts and tips while learning about productivity, storing telling and my experience flying drones in New Zealand.
“Goals” What I am working on for the next 3 months and hope to achieve.
“Finished” What I have completed and want to share with the world plus what I have learned in the process.
“My Favorites” At the end of every email I will have a quick rapid-fire of my favourite apps, websites or something I have found helpful over the previous months.
Goals: Term 4
So my goal for the next 3 months is to…
Write and film a video for the NZYFF (New Zealand Young Film Festival) which is happening later this year.
Post 2X videos on YouTube.
Start reading through a new book.
Write the next email for Substack.
And keeping positive 😄
Finished: First Product
Earlier this month I released my first digital product on GumRoad a Drone Checklist of everything I go through while flying drones in New Zealand.
I had the idea for this early this year but for one reason or another, I keep putting it off for a later day. Well, I finally got around to releasing it in August and I am really happy with how it has turned out. In the future, I am planning on updating the list to make it better and adding more products to GumRoad. But for now, it is a start.
One thing I learned from making and releasing the “Drone Checklist” is that your first attempt is not going to be perfect, and that is okay. The reason it took me so long to finish this project was even though it was not technically all that complicated I wanted it to be perfect so it was never finished.
Once I got my mind around that it would never be perfect. I actually had some fun taking the promotional photos and working out how to release it on GumRoad.
